The most visible part of a product is rarely the most important part of it. Interfaces shape understanding, but systems shape what is possible.
Draw the invisible parts first
When I begin a build, I try to draw the invisible parts first:
- the information
- the decisions
- the constraints
- the feedback loops
Once those are clear, the interface becomes an explanation — not a decoration.
This is not an argument against polish. It is an argument for earning polish through a sound structure underneath it.
